What Is An Appendix?
The vermiform (that is, resembling a worm) appendix is a narrow blind-ending tube that is attached to the first part of the colon.
The average length of an appendix is around 9 cm, but they can reach to over 25 cm!
7-10 percent of Americans will get appendicitis in their lifetime.
Having an appendix is not necessary for having a healthy life.
About 1 out of 100,000 people are born without an appendix (agenesis of the appendix vermiformis).
