Nutraceuticals - Nature’s Drug
Before there were drug companies, nature was the sole source of medicines...whether or not it was known by our predecessors.
In fact, the majority of drugs available in the market today come from Mother Nature. Take cancer - where 131 of the 175 molecules that were approved were not synthetic.
Nutraceutical is a term used to describe herbs, supplements, certain diets, and some foods which can be used for ‘medicinal’ purposes.
In all cases, a nutraceutical contains a substance which has some sort of physiological benefit to our bodies.
It’s big business. The estimated global nutraceutical market may be in excess of $250 billion per year.
In our time of diet diaspora, where we are inundated with different dietary regimes, from: vegan, carnivore, keto, alkaline, low sugar, etc.… The permutations go on and on.
Within it all, there’s a missing link… It’s these bio active compounds that can do things for our bodies and our health.
And some of these nutraceuticals have very compelling evidence of efficacy - meaning the nutraceutical can work.
It’s another dimension to the old adage “you are what you eat“.
