HPV Screening for Cervical Cancer
Human Papilloma Virus testing has improved in its sensitivity. It is now better able to detect high grade, precancerous disease.
People who test negative are less likely to have a grade 3 or worse cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, when compared to a Pap Smear.
Several medical societies and experts, including the American Cancer Society, support the use of HPV testing to screen for cervical cancer.
HPV screening is expected to become a new standard of care for cervical cancer screening.
